V 3-17 Discussion of the Heaven-Earth-Man Trinity 漫谈“天地人”

在阿修罗道的人,有天之福,但是没有天之道德。阿修罗道是灵体世界,但是思维也很低俗。看看从阿修罗道到人间的男人和女人做什么事情就知道了。你们现在把父母超度到阿修罗道,以为很好了,不想超度了。其实有些人和父母的怨结还未了结。很多人说,少念点小房子让他们投胎做人,行吗?你们不都是在人道吗,苦不苦啊,苦不堪言。你们有几个人还想再投人?

People of the Asura realm possess the blessings of the heavens but lack the virtues of heavenly beings. The Asura realm is a spiritual world, but their thoughts are generally distasteful. Just look what the men and women do when they descend to the human realm, and you know. When you have helped your deceased parents ascend to the Asura realm, you think it’s already very good so you won’t have to help them ascend further. But in reality, the resentment and karmic knot between the person and their parents might not have ceased yet. Master have also heard people say that they will offer less Little Houses so that they reincarnate in the human realm, do you think that’s adequate? Aren’t you already in the human realm? Aren’t you in pain? It’s unbearable, how many of you would choose to reincarnate as a human again?


师父告诉你们,监狱里的犯人,十个有九个很聪明。但是佛法讲,聪明反被聪明误。有多少人自作聪明,这都是作茧自缚。同样,在修行中,有多少人自以为修得好,人家劝他时,他可以讲得一套一套的。这都叫孽障啊。这种人叫没有智慧的人。说个人间的比方给你们听,你在悉尼大学学电脑,他在悉尼大学学医,你去跟学医的人说,我们都是一个大学的,你懂听诊器可以帮我弄弄电脑吧。

Master tells you, nine out of ten criminals that you find inside the prison are intelligent. But the Buddha-Dharma expounds that intelligent people may be victims of their own intelligence. Many people are smart alecks, but they are actually entrapping themselves in their own ego. Similarly, in cultivation, many people think that they’re cultivating very well. When others try to persuade them to correct themselves, they can defend themselves articularly and rationally. These are karmic obstacles. These kinds of people lack wisdom. Here’s another example, let’s assume that you study computer science at the University of Sydney, and another person studies medical science at the same university. But you go to the medical student and ask him, “We’re from the same university, do you know how to use a stethoscope to fix my computer?”


不同的法门就是这样,你不懂这个道理,你怎么懂那个道理啊。八万四千法门,你可以拿一个法门去撞击另一个法门吗?任何法门要等天时、地利、人和,这个法门才能下来。但是在法门当中,有的法门来人间度化众生来得早了一点,并不是任何法门都适合自己学习,但我们要寻找一个真正适合自己的法门。

Different cultivation practices are like that. You don’t understand their reasoning and principles, but how could you? There are 84,000 Dharma doors, could you use one of the Dharma doors to attack another? Every Dharma door requires the necessary conditions (right time, right place, right people) to manifest. But among the Dharma doors, some of them have appeared much earlier to spiritually awaken sentient beings, but it doesn’t mean that the Dharma door is the most suitable for you to learn. We must seek the most suitable cultivation practice for ourselves.


那么真的法门的标准是什么呢?用一句现代话说,就是实践是检验真理的唯一标准。也就是说,这个法门必须灵验,马上能救度众生的。心灵法门为什么有这么多的人跟着师父修心念经?如果不灵的话,为什么每个人家里会越来越好?本来要出的毛病,念经后会越来越好。但也有很多人说,我没念经的时候不痛的,怎么一念经就痛了?

Then what’s the standard for the right Dharma door? In laymen terms, practice is the sole criterion for testing truth. The Dharma door must be efficacious and can immediately save and awaken sentient beings. Why are there so many people practising Guan Yin Citta and follow Master’s teachings to cultivate their mind recite sutras? If it isn’t efficacious, why are there so many families who said that their lives have improved after practising it? Originally they had problems, but after they recited sutras, it has been resolved. But many people also said that they didn’t feel any physical pain before reciting sutras, so why is it painful after they started to recite sutras?


本来痛是放在以后痛的,你念经后痛了,是让你先激活了灵性,痛过了,以后就不痛了。如果现在不念经修行,你想以后我们老了,什么能量都没有的时候,你就会很痛苦的承受死亡。你现在年轻,还有力量,还有功力,你现在痛,不会死的。所以,情愿先痛,有毛病先解决,不要到了晚年一起报。一起报的话,叫并发症,并发症是抢救不了的,肝、肺、心脏等功能都坏了,怎么抢救呢?

Originally, the pain should’ve happened later, but after you recited sutras, you have agitated the foreign spirits, that’s why the pain occurred sooner. But after the pain is over, that tribulation is gone. If you don’t recite sutras and cultivate now, you must think about what will happen when you’re old and lack energy. At that time, when the pain does occur, it will be excruciating and will continue until you die. You are still young and still possess energy and a measure of power. Even if are hurt now, you won’t die from it. That’s why we prefer that we experience the pain sooner. So problems can be resolved earlier rather than later, don’t wait until it occurs when you’re old. When all the karmic retributions are triggered in one go, it means all the conditions will aggravate an already existing disease or problem. When that occurs, you can’t be saved. When all of your organs have deteriorated, who can save you?


阿修罗道的人,男的模样很凶,基本脸型有点像科幻片里飞碟上的人,但比他们好看,其实这些科幻片的创作组都有通灵人士做参谋。《星球大战》讲的就是阿修罗道的事情。两千多年前印度传下来的修行方法是很好的,但能不能适应现代人修行的方法。所以不管什么法门,不管什么渠道,不管用什么方法,目的是要你修成正果,你就成功了。如果你们还想了解阿修罗道更多,你们看看科幻片。师父在看科幻片的时候,浑身毛骨悚然,和师父在天上看到的一模一样,人、刀、枪、激光等,实际上金光闪闪的那些东西在科幻片里就变成了子弹。

The men look very aggressive in the Asura realm. Their basic facial features are very similar to the aliens you see in Science fiction films, but of course, they look much better than those characters. The movie ‘Star Wars’ is basically describing what the Asura realm is like. Two thousand years ago, the cultivational practices that were passed down were very good, but would it still be suitable for the modern-day people to practise it? That’s why, regardless of what Dharma Door, or what channel, or what method, the aim is to help you achieve fruition in your cultivation. When you do, you’re successful. If you want to know more about the Asura realm, go and watch science fiction movies, When Master watches science fiction films, he feels uneasy. It’s exactly like how it is when Master looks at the realm with the people, weapons, guns and lasers. The lasers are like bullets when firing at others.


师父在图腾上看到的就是光束,就像人的眼睛一样,两道光会出来。你们看不见的,所以人就会产生很多想象。我们现在想像的以为走的时候会很痛苦,实际上,等到你一走,如果你真的飘上天的话,一点痛苦都没有。为什么?那个时候没有痛苦,因为你不会想到下面。不是说你没有良心,因为你到另外一个世界去了。那个时候的心情不一样,就像我们在旅游的时候一样,会忘掉很多烦恼,很开心。

When Master reads other people’s Totems, everything happens instantly, and he could read other people’s aura, that looks similar to light. Because you can’t see things beyond the capabilities of the physical eye, you imagine a lot of things. Typically, we imagine that it will be very painful when we die. But in reality, when do pass away, if you do manage to ascend, it will be painless. Why? There won’t be any pain because you won’t think about the things happening below. It’s not that you’re heartless, but it’s that when you’re about to enter into a new world, your mood is different. It’s like when you are on holiday or exploring new lands, you would forget about a lot of afflictions, and you’ll be happy.


鬼投人的时候,要吃孟婆汤,忘记过去的事情。实际上,人在上天之后,他也忘记了过去。在阿弥陀经里讲到,莲花池,八功德水,七宝池,到这个池洗过之后,你把身上的烦恼、肮脏的东西全部洗光了。就是说,如果你是自然上天的话,也会有这么一层东西,就像我们平常坐飞机,经过云层一样,穿过云层,境界就不一样了,等修上天。那个时候,你不会有痛苦,你什么都不会想了。师父和你们前世都有缘分啊,师父很痛苦,因为师父看得见前几世,你们过去有人欠师父,很多人是师父的学生。而现在(今生)没有问题了,因为你们全忘记了,全不知道了。

When ghosts are ready to reincarnate into the Human Realm, they must drink the soup of forgetfulness to forget about everything that happened in the past. When you ascend into heaven, you will also forget about the past. The Amitabha Sutra mentions about the Lotus flower pool, the water of Eight Merit-Virtues and the pool of Seven Treasures. After you’re bathed in it, all of your afflictions and contaminants will be washed away. In other words, if your spirit ascends to heaven naturally, you will pass a layer that’s like a layer of clouds when you fly upwards on an aeroplane. After you pass through this layer, your level of spirituality will not be the same anymore, and you will possess the Heavenly level of spirituality. When that occurs, you won’t feel pain anymore; you won’t think about any more distracting thoughts. Master has a past-life karmic affinity with you all. Master is also pained to see you; it’s because Master can see your previous lives. Some of you have a karmic debt with Master, many of you were once Master’s students. But in this present life, you don’t have any feelings about it because you have forgotten about everything in the past. So you don’t know anymore.


尤如:你会碰到一个人,这个人脸挺熟的,我就喜欢跟他讲话,可是你知道他过去曾经是你的谁啊。就像你们现在看不见一样啊。师父现在看得见你们的前世,这个人要来还债了,那个人是我的徒弟,过去那个人是我的学生,师父情愿不要看见,会很难过。明白了吗?你们现在还记得前世的东西吗?你们到了天上还记得人间的东西吗?人死掉后到天上就只想天上的事了。但是,很多人不懂,以为人死了就能上天,很多宗教都以为人死了一定能上天,和上天堂,不管做了多少坏事,死了也能够上天堂。这可能吗?坏人就得下去,好人就得上去,这是因果定律。

Just like when you bump into somebody, and you feel the person is somebody you know before, and you like interacting with the person. But do you know what relationship the person had with you in the past? It’s just like how you can’t see anything now. When Master sees your previous lives, some of you are here to pay karmic debts, the person who’s now my disciple was once my student in the previous life, etc. Master rather not be able to see these things, as he would get upset. Do you understand? Do you still recall the things in the previous life? When you have ascended to heaven, would you still remember the things that happened in the Human Realm? After somebody passes away and ascends to Heaven, what’s relevant to them are the things in the Heavenly Realm. But many people don’t understand; they think that anybody who dies will automatically go to heaven. Many religions think that when a person dies, they will then go to Heaven no matter how many unwholesome deeds they had committed. Is this possible? Bad people will descend while good people will ascend, that’s the law of cause and effect.


师父跟你们讲,人活在世界上,只能做好事,不能做坏事,所有的事情要随缘。很多问题不能攀缘,一个人一攀缘,就完了。不该你的东西,拼命地去追求,可怜不可怜?你知道有多少人要考状元,可是只有千分之一的希望比例。很多人想着自己的孩子一定要考上精英中学,但是有几个能考上的呢?你们现在跟着师父,你们就有这个福气。要记住,你们只要跟着师父修,不但你们会好,你们的孩子也会好。你们如果想你们的孩子好,多念经修佛,你们就有福气。师父给你们上课,就是给你们加持。学佛必须有智慧。

Master wants you to know that as long we’re alive, we can only do wholesome deeds, not unwholesome deeds. We must act in accordance with karmic conditions with everything. There are many problems where we mustn’t force ourselves to establish an affinity with; otherwise, it will only cause suffering. If you pursue things that don’t belong to you, aren’t you pitiful? Do you know how many people want to get their children into the best schools? But how many people do successfully enter into their dream school? Now that you’re following Master, it means you have this worldly blessing to do so. Take note, as long as you cultivate with Master, not only will your life improve, but also your children’s. If you want your children to be well, you must regularly recite sutras and practise Buddhism. Then you will have this worldly blessing. When Master is teaching you, he is giving you his blessings. One must possess wisdom to practise Buddhism.


你们要记住几个问题。大家都知道皈依三宝,佛、法、僧。自信三宝是什么呢?觉、正、净。就是说觉悟了之后,把自己所做的所有事情摆在正位,把你的心灵洗涤干净,你本身的佛性才会慢慢显化出来,觉、正、净,才会慢慢地开化出来,你们要学的就是这个。任何人间的发脾气、不开心、贪婪、爱占便宜、痴迷等,这些都是没有觉悟。爱赌博的人常对家人说,小赌怡情,大赌养家糊口。

You must take note of a few questions. Everybody knows about taking refuge of the three jewels, the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha. So what about ‘faith of one’s own three jewels’? It’s realisation, rightfulness and purity. When one has reached realisation, they will gradually reform themselves and set things right, which would then purify one’s mental state. Then one’s Buddha-nature will gradually manifest itself. It’s after realisation, rightfulness and purity, would it gradually manifest itself. What you want to learn is this. When anybody loses their temper, gets upset, becomes greedy of foolish, it means they don’t have realisation. People who love gambling regularly tell others that occasional gambling makes one cheerful, while heavy gambling can help one take care of their family.


你们说,有哪个爱赌博的人能养家糊口了?这就叫不正。人的念头不正,就会邪,一有邪念,就倒霉了。一个人的念头不正,所做的事情不会有正的。举个例子,这条路是去堪培拉的,你只要沿着这条路走,你肯定可以到达堪培拉。如果这条路开始就歪了,你加大马力往前走,是不是会越来越歪了?学佛也是这样。如果一个人求很多的法门,他进了某个法门后,为什么会越修越差呢?拜佛、念经都越来越不灵呢?这是因为出偏差了,怎么能灵呢?

What do you think? Are heavy gamblers capable of taking care of their family? When you hear their reasoning, you know it’s deviated. When a person’s thought deviates, they will become evil, and gradually they will encounter misfortune. When a person’s thought is deviated, everything they do is deviated. Here’s an example, you’re driving on the road to Canberra, and as long as you follow the road, you will definitely get there. But if this road starts to deviate and go astray, then no matter how fast you drive, the greater the distance between you and your destination? It’s the same when it comes to practising Buddhism. If a person pursues a lot of different cultivation practices, why is it easy for them to deviate when they want to settle on a method? And it’s not efficacious when they pray to the Buddhas and reciting sutras? It’s because they deviated, so how could it possibly be efficacious?


就像很多人身体不好吃营养品一样,身体不好应该吃药,营养品只是在你身体没有生病的时候帮助你保护身体的。生病之后吃营养品而不去吃药,不是耽误病情了吗?你们现在浑身都是毛病,孽障这么深,还要师父给你们营养品啊。师父要拿把大砍刀,不管你是82岁还是28岁,师父看见毛病就砍,痛不痛啊,痛就是快好了,这就叫做“痛快”。

Just like a lot of people start to take health supplements when they have fallen ill. When they’re ill, they should be taking medicine instead. Health supplements are only used to protect and maintain the body when you’re not ill. If you only take health supplements and not medicine when you’re ill, aren’t you prolonging your illness? Most of you are plagued by problems, and your negative karma is so significant, yet you want Master to give you ‘health supplements’? Master must use a surgical knife and remove all the flaws that you have, regardless whether you’re 82 or 28 years old. Does it hurt? It will hurt, but you’ll also recover a lot quicker from it.


不痛的话,就会一直慢慢地痛。动手术时痛一下,接下来就不痛了。很多事情都是这样的,咬咬牙坚持一下,接下去就不痛苦了。举个例子,很多小青年谈恋爱,分分合合,永远痛苦,不停地说,我下决心分手,我为什么要去找他,我为什么憋不住啊,已经没有缘分了,可还得去找,这就是痛苦,这个痛苦是你自己找来的,你不肯放弃,你就永远痛苦,该舍的就得舍。师父这个时代救人,是大刀阔斧,能救的就救,不能救的就只能放弃。

If it doesn’t hurt, then you will constantly feel the pain. Although it may hurt after a surgical operation, you won’t feel any more pain afterwards. Many things are like that. When you grit your teeth and persevere through it, then you’ll no longer suffer. Here’s an example, many young people go out and date. They are always in a constant cycle of breaking up and getting together again, and they’re constantly in emotional pain. They always tell themselves that they must be decisive at breaking up with their partner and say things like, “Why must I go look for him? Why can’t I hold myself back?” The karmic affinity between you have already ended, yet you still pursue him, that is suffering, and it’s a suffering that you created for yourself. It’s because you’re not willing to let go, that’s why you will suffer constantly. When it’s time to let go, you must do so. When Master goes out and saves others, he will save who he can. If he can’t save somebody, he could only let go.


净,指的是心灵要纯净。一个人无论如何要把自己的心灵修得善良一点。想觉悟的人有一个条件,一定要上根利智,就是说这个人的根基是属于上品,这个人是个聪明人,很有智慧。如果很笨不开悟的人,觉就慢。人品好、品质好的人,心地善良的人,才能觉。心地很恶的人,是觉悟不了的。你们去救人,如果碰到流氓恶霸,不要去救,他们身上太脏了,太臭了,救不了的。先自度度人,自己都不好,浑身是病,能救别人吗?很多修行者,念经一辈子,学的是大乘佛法,救的是天地人鬼,他们有没有功德呢?

Purity refers to the purity of one’s soul and state of mind. No matter what happens, you must cultivate your soul to become more kind-hearted. When a person wants to attain realisation, they must fulfil a condition, which is that they must possess superior faculties and keen wisdom. In other words, their foundation is of superior grade. This kind of person is intelligent and have greatly developed wisdom. If they were not intelligent and unawakened, then their rate of realisation would be slow. Only people who have a good character and is kind-hearted can attain realisation. If a person’s mind is unwholesome, they won’t be to attain it. When you’re in the midst of saving others, and you encounter a hooligan or a bully, don’t bother with them. They won’t be able to awaken. They are too defiled to be saved. You must first spiritually awaken yourselves, then spiritually awaken others. If even you are not in a good and healthy state, and illnesses plague you, how could you save others? Many cultivators recite sutras throughout their whole lifetime. But they practise Mahayana Buddhism by saving and spiritually awakening foreign spirits, do they accumulate merit-virtues?


有,下辈子了,因为他们如果不把自己身上的孽障去除,就凭念经的功德,除了抵消孽障,下辈子可能也到不了天上,所以在人间出现这么多的高官子弟、有钱有势的人,他们修了一辈子了,他们投在富人家里,迷失方向了,吃喝嫖赌,下辈子又做鬼,说不定做了比上辈子更多的坏事,会轮回到地狱了,投胎畜牲,连做人的机会都没有。所以为什么畜牲不能够变人啊?因为畜牲,比如,马,它就只知道它是马。这就叫没智慧。你们碰上这么好的师父,要好好修啊。

Yes, they do. But if the cultivator doesn’t eliminate their negative karma in their lifetime, then the merit-virtues accumulated from reciting the sutras will only eliminate some of it but not enough to let them ascend to heaven. So they are reborn in a wealthy, reputable or authoritarian family. They have cultivated for a lifetime, but they end up reborn to a wealthy family and lose their way, and indulge themselves. If they committed unwholesome deeds during that lifetime, they may even end up in hell or reincarnate into an animal. They may lose even the chance to become human again. It’s very difficult for animals to reincarnate into a human. That’s because animals, for example, horses, they only know that they are a horse. They lack the potential to develop wisdom. If you have encountered a good master, then you must properly cultivate.


师父喜欢把深奥的佛法讲得浅显易懂,师父喜欢讲人间佛法,要讲得别人能听得懂。讲法要讲得人家听得懂,才能救人,那才叫大乘佛法。伟大的观世音菩萨救人都是以什么样的身去得度,现什么样的身。师父在台上的时候,有那么多的人看见师父的法身是菩萨。所有救人要把自己的真心显现出来,不要单搞形式主义的东西。有些慈善机构跑到养老院去,比如母亲节,圣诞晚会等,那些老人很多是痴呆病人,坐在那里,这些人拉着老人家的手唱歌、做游戏、然后拍照,这是干什么呀,不是折腾老人家吗?做什么秀啊?有些国家的人,有些地区的人,还亲吻土地呢,当着电视台的面,跪下来,把嘴巴跟土地亲一下。真是难为他们了,师父救人,学习济公菩萨,走到哪,救到哪,惩罚恶人,救助好人。

Master likes to explain the Buddha-Dharma in a simple way that allows people to understand it with ease. Only by doing so could the listener be saved. That’s what Mahayana Buddhism is about. The greatly Guan Yin Bodhisattva has always manifested the most suitable and acceptable form to save others. When Master is on stage, many people could see that Master’s Dharma-body is a Bodhisattva. If you want to save others, you must manifest your sincerity; it isn’t for show. Many charity organisations visit nursing homes at times like Mother’s Day or Christmas. Many of the elderly there suffer from dementia and just sitting there. The people from the charity organisations engage in social activities with them like singing, dancing, playing games and then take a group photo at the end. What is it for? Aren’t they just troubling the elderly? What kind of show are they trying to do? Some people also kneel and kiss the earth in front of the live broadcast for a TV programme. It must be very hard for them. When Master saves others, he learns from Jigong Bodhisattva who save the people he encounters. He would punish evil people and save and assist good people.
