有些人梦到菩萨来了，接下来马上去买六合彩，他能中奖吗？这样很容易着魔。“我梦见菩萨了，为什么我还不能中六合彩？”不要把它当成圣果，否则就会招引魔的干扰。如果你把自己看到的菩萨景象，或者看到的一点点学佛修心的善果，一本正经地当成一个善果、圣果，接下来你的意念当中就会有魔出现。
Some people dream of the Bodhisattvas, and then they immediately go and buy a lottery ticket when they wake up. Could they win a prize? That way, it’s easy for them to become possessed. “I’ve dreamt of the Bodhisattvas; why didn’t I win the lottery?” Don’t think of it as a reward; otherwise, it’s easy for you to be interfered with by your inner demons. If you treat supranormal experiences or goods things that happen to you as a karmic reward from your cultivation, that what comes next is that an inner demon would grow within your thoughts.
师父刚刚举的例子告诉你们，做梦看见菩萨了，开心吧？觉得菩萨到自己的梦里来了，一定会有好事情发生，开始走偏了吧？于是去买六合彩，是不是着魔了？师父跟你们讲，修行人只要一走偏，马上就会露出贪瞋痴的破绽。这话很深啊。修行人要严格守戒，一点都不能贪。例如今天有个蛋糕，大伙说“你先吃”，这些秘书处小朋友真的很好，切成这么一片片的，一直传到最后，自己先不吃，这就是不贪啊。因为你贪了之后，贪魔就会钻空子，你就会被魔所控制。
The example earlier was to illustrate this principle. If you dream about the Bodhisattvas, wouldn’t you feel happy about it? You then think that something good is bound to happen because you dreamt about them. Isn’t that a sign that you have started to deviate? Because of it, you went to buy a lottery ticket, aren’t you possessed? If a cultivator starts to deviate, it will immediately expose their weak point to their greed, hatred and delusion. The meaning of this is deep. Cultivators should observe their precepts strictly, and they mustn’t get greedy even for a tiny bit. For example, if somebody brought a cake today, everybody says, “You eat first.” The secretariats at the radio centre are very good; they would slice up the cake in pieces and pass it to everybody before leaving the last piece to themselves. They don’t eat first. That is how one behaves if one’re not greedy. Because if you’re greedy, your inner demon will exploit that weakness in your mind and you’ll become possessed.
魔是什么？魔是你的贪心，利用你的恨心，让你变成愚痴心。师父举个简单例子，有个人很希望你跟老婆打架，你今天跟老婆吵架了，你到隔壁邻居那里去，跟他讲：“我老婆神经病，整天在跟我吵。”然后对方说：“你也不要这样了，有时候女人总是这样的，今天跟你吵了一生气，说不定跑到外面去找个男人，这种可能性也是有的。”他一挑拨，好了，你就开始着魔了，天天盯着老婆，怀疑后就有恨心了，魔就会钻空子，听得懂吗？
What are inner demons? They are your greed. It takes advantage of your hatred and slowly drives you further into delusion. Here’s another simple example to illustrate it. Your neighbour hopes that you have an argument with your wife. When you do, you go to the neighbour and start complaining to him, “My wife’s crazy. She constantly picks a fight with me.” Then the neighbour reply, “Don’t be like that. Sometimes, women do that because they want an excuse to then stay out of the house and look for another guy. That’s also a possibility.” After sowing dissension, you begin to be possessed by your inner demons. You constantly target her, and your doubts breed your hatred. Your inner demons then exploit that weakness in your mind. Do you understand?
因为想得到的没得到，你说：“真难过。”马上有人跟你说：“你知道吗？人家怎么赚钱这么容易的，你看这个人发财，那个人发财，怎么就你发不了财？”他会告诉你一个方法：“贩毒吧，只做两次，保证你一辈子都吃不完的。”看见了吧？被魔钻进去了吧？所以要严守自己的贪，我不该拿的坚决不拿，我不该看的坚决不看。很多女孩子跟家里老公吵架后，气不过就跑到外面去，马路上酒吧里的女人对她说：“想开一点啦，这个无所谓的，你老公怎么这样？来喝杯酒吧，跟别人玩玩散散心没关系的。”好了，回到家被老公发现了，离婚了。你因为恨心，你因为贪酒，你马上就被别人钻空子，魔就上身了，接下来，在家里魔障就不断。师父跟你们讲，不能给魔任何机会，明白了吗？
Because you don’t get what you wanted, you say, “I feel so bad.” Then a person next to you said, “Did you know? Others make money so easily. Look at how many people get rich. Why can’t you get rich? Do you want to know the way to make some easy money? Why don’t you sell drugs? Just do it twice, and I promise you that you’re rich for a lifetime. Do you see? That’s how your inner demons exploit your weakness. That’s why you must keep a close eye on your greed. Do not take what shouldn’t be taken. Do not look at what shouldn’t be looked. After an argument with their husband, many girls leave the house and have a stroll down the street. Some of the girls that work at the local bar see her and say, “Be open-minded about it. It’s okay. What’s the matter with your husband? Why don’t you come and have a drink? You can let go of your worries with somebody, and it’s okay.” When she returns home, and her affair is discovered, they divorce. It’s hatred that has clouded her judgement, so her inner demons managed to exploit that weakness in her mind. Afterwards, it constantly develops obstructions for you. Master tells you, you mustn’t give your inner demons even the slightest chance, do you understand?
接下来跟大家再讲一个着魔的事情。修行人不能贪著神通，因为一贪便有神通魔来附身。你们知道有一种叫神通魔吗？只要你对一件事物迷恋，哪怕天天要见观世音菩萨，“观世音菩萨，你来到我的梦中吧”，结果观世音菩萨没有来，魔来了。魔是怎么来的？那就是神通魔冒充菩萨。
Next, we will talk about another issue that makes one possessed. Cultivators mustn’t get obsessed with supranormal powers; otherwise, their inner demons associated with it will possess them. Do you know that there’s a type of inner demon called supernormal power demon? As long as you are obsessed with something, even if that obsession was to see Guan Yin Bodhisattva every day, “Guan Yin Bodhisattva, please visit me in my dreams.” As a result, Guan Yin Bodhisattva didn’t come, but a demon pretending to be Her came.
犹如有人弄一碗汤给你喝，这个烧饭的人跟你说，味精已经放过了，“怎么没有味精啊？”“刚才厨房说已经放过味精了，你再吃吃看？”“嗯，味道是不错的。”实际上，人家就是忘记了放味精。你不能去执著于某一个事情，你不要去想，否则你会想出事情来的，那就是神通魔啊。有些人觉得自己的眼睛也跟师父一样，把自己的眼睛闭着看，好了，眼睛一闭上，魂魄出去了。你们秘书处昨天问问题的时候不是有一个孩子玩游戏灵魂出窍，灵魂出去了之后没有回来，一直到现在都是神经病。
Just like when the waiter brings you a bowl of soup. You say to him, “Why doesn’t this have any seasoning?” The waiter reply, “The chef said that he has already put in seasoning. Please taste it again.” “Oh, the taste is quite good.” In reality, the chef forgot to put in the seasoning. You mustn’t be attached to anything. Don’t think about it; otherwise, you will start to overthink it. That’s the supranormal power demon. Some people think that they have the same supranormal powers as Master does. They close their physical eyes and try to see if they could see spiritually. There was a case when a child accidentally experienced an out-of-body experience while playing a video game where their spirit came out. It never returned, so the child remained mentally ill.
学佛人不能去追求神通。如果你对各种神变（就是神通的变化），非常感兴趣，你觉得自己能知道一些了，你能够感觉一些了，好了，你就叫假惑。师父不是跟你们讲过吗，南半球和北半球是不一样的。在澳大利亚，从香港拿过来的挂历上写的良辰吉日，很多人看着这个出行，结果跑出去就跟别人撞车了，因为南半球和北半球的方位搞错了，不但不发财，还要倒霉。所以，不要追求这些神变。你知道的这些是假惑，不是真的，所以也会着魔、上当。
Buddhists shouldn’t pursue supranormal powers. If you develop a keen interest in its manifestations, feel knowledgeable about it, and sense it to a degree, you may already have a ‘false feeling’. Master mentioned it before, the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere is different. In Australia, some people take a wall calendar from Hong Kong that says auspicious and inauspicious activities for that particular day. When people see that it’s auspicious to travel, they got into a car accident instead. That’s because they used a calendar from the northern hemisphere in the southern hemisphere. Not only do they not get lucky, but they also meet misfortune. That’s why, don’t pursue the manifestations of supranormal powers. What you think you are false feelings; they aren’t real. That’s why you’re susceptible to being possessed by your inner demons and are fooled by them.
如果学佛人喜欢干净，就会有干净魔来附身。干净魔就是洁癖。有些人有洁癖，吃饭前把手洗了又洗，碰到一样东西马上又要去洗手，觉得这个有细菌、那个脏，觉得自己不反复洗洗就是不舒服，这也是着魔了。这种人总觉得身体不干净，一天要洗澡好几次，换很多次衣服，和别人交往都会觉得别人很脏，成天自己不自在。有一位听众打进电话来跟师父说，自己的孩子有毛病，每天要洗澡八次，半夜里还要起床洗澡，他总觉得自己很脏，很难过，这就是着干净魔了。
If a Buddhist likes cleanliness, it could also attract a clean inner demon to possess them. That is mysophobia. Some people have mysophobia. They would wash their hands immediately before and after doing something because they think that there are germs and they are dirty. They feel uncomfortable if they don’t constantly wash themselves or clean something. They are possessed. These people constantly feel dirty, so they have to shower a few times every day and change their clothes many times during the day. They also feel dirty when they get in contact with others, so they feel uneasy. A listener called Master on his radio programme and told him that her son has a problem. He has to take a bath eight times every day, and he would wake up in the middle of the night to take a bath. He keeps thinking that he’s dirty, so he’s upset. That’s a sign that he’s possessed by an inner demon obsessed with cleanliness.
还有些人喜欢看连续剧，下班后回到家什么事情都不干，饭都顾不上吃，就去看连续剧，这是不是着魔了？打老虎机是不是着魔了？做什么事情都会着魔。还有，学佛人如果贪睡，便有睡魔和梦魔。你贪睡了，很多人睡到后来爬不起来，动都不想动，因为睡魔上身了。梦魔是什么？做了一个梦还想做。做了一个恶梦，还想再做一个好梦，做不到好梦继续做梦，这是不是着魔了？就像很多人想生孩子一样的：我们过去有一位邻居，生了六个女儿，就是想生儿子，第七个才是儿子，这个儿子生出来就有毛病，腿有点瘸，眼皮子有点下垂。这就是着魔，“我不做到这个事情我不罢休”，执著就会着魔。
Also some people are obsessed with watching TV dramas. After they return home from work, they don’t do anything, nor cook dinner to eat. They immediately watch the TV drama that they’re chasing. Aren’t they possessed? Aren’t those who play slot machines also seem possessed? You can be possessed for anything. Also, if a Buddhist likes to sleep, they could be possessed by their inner demons for sleeping and dreaming. If you’re obsessed with sleeping, you find it hard to get out of bed even if you had woke up. That’s because the inner demon of sleeping possesses you. What is the inner demon of dreaming? It’s when you have dreamt of something, and you want to continue with that dream. If you had a nightmare, you want to get a good dream. If you can’t, you continue to dream. Isn’t this behaviour seems like one is possessed? It’s just like when somebody wants to have children. There was a neighbour who gave birth to six daughters and wants to have a son. Her seventh child was a baby boy, but unfortunately, he was born with some defects. “If I don’t do this, I will not rest.” Attachment leads to being possessed by one’s inner demons.
